The Flora of the Fells events festival celebrates one of its most successful years this week with a first - for the first time, Flora of the Fells has been invited to give a talk at the prestigious international Kendal Mountain Festival.
The talk, called 'Mission Possible?' will cover the likely impacts of climate change on the stunning wildlife and landscapes of the Lake District Fells and looks at what we might do to help reduce these. The talk is at K Village Heritage Centre this Saturday, November 20 from 2-3.15pm. The event marks the end of highly successful season for the 2010 Flora of the Fells Festival, in which over 180 events have been run since April by more than 50 groups and organisations throughout Cumbria, with more than 2000 people attending events. The Festival aims to encourage as many people as possible, of all ages and backgrounds to get out, explore and learn about Cumbria's amazing upland landscapes and wildlife through lots of different events. Sustainability and climate change are underlying themes of the project, which is run in partnership by Friends of the Lake District (the Lake District's only landscape charity) and Natural England. Organisers have tried to make the festival as low carbon as possible by running events in locations accessible by public transport and encouraging people to explore their local area by having area based events. The Flora of the Fells talk 'Mission Possible?' is at K Village Heritage Centre this Saturday, November 20 from 2-3.15pm. Entry is free but places are limited so come early.
