Introducing the first Dark Sky Beer Festival
Thursday, 20 October 2011 15:33

As part of a See the Stars project, Friends of the Lake District is working with Langdale Estate on a Dark Sky Beer Festival at Wainwright's Inn, Chapel Stile, Langdale over Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October.

orion_web1'See the Stars' is funded by the Lake District Sustainable Development Fund and aims to raise awareness of the wonders of the night sky and how our view of the stars is being lost through light pollution.

The Dark Sky Beer Festival will showcase local Cumbrian dark beers such as Stringers Brewery Mutiny Dark Stout and Cumbrian Legendary Ales Grasmoor Dark Ale.

Members of Kendal's Eddington Astronomical Society will be on hand each evening (weather permitting!) to talk to beer festival goers about the stars and what they can see from Wainwright's.

Friends of the Lake District have also produced a free beginner's Star Gazing guide which will be available on the night.

Judith Moore, Policy Officer at Friends of the Lake District said: 'We think that this is the first Dark Sky Beer Festival - it's a great chance to visit a lovely pub, enjoy some local real ale and find out more about the wonders of the night sky - fingers crossed for a clear night!'
