Coming soon to Cumbria - Frogs, Flowers and Romans

What do Frogs, Flowers and Romans and have in common? They all feature in the Flora of the Fells Festival 2008! With over 150 events taking place across the county, the Festival is a great way to discover new places and fascinating facts about the Cumbrian landscape.

Running from March to October, the Flora of the Fells Festival is part of the Flora of the Fells Project, an initiative to raise awareness of the importance of the Cumbrian landscape, funded by Friends of the Lake District and Natural England.

Ruth Evans Festival Officer said "Be they young or old, nimble or not so nimble, there is an event for everyone this year - come on a leisurely woodland stroll or join local floral experts along the verges at Orton or take to the high hills on a challenging mountain flower discovery, you might even like to try your hand at a new skill or craft or put something back into the environment by joining a volunteer work party"

Working alongside a number of National Nature Reserves such as Roudsea Woods and Mosses, Conservation Organisations such as East Cumbria Countryside Project, Festivals such as the Ullswater Walking Festival, and National Organisations such as the John Muir Award the 2008 programme promises to deliver a wide range of events from a wide range of perspectives.

Flora of the Fells Festival 2008 has tasked itself to bring the landscape and its value to everyone who is interested. From Easter to autumn, there are over 120 events to choose from so you can be sure there is something for you.
