Go online and Give the Driver a Break
Monday, 14 June 2010 09:52

If you are looking for easy days out in the Lakes, then Give the Driver a Break has great ideas for walks and places to visit.

rory_black2010_gdabGive the Driver a Break is a series of leaflets of ideas for days out complete with full public transport information.
It is a Lake District National Park Authority project supported by Friends of the Lake District.

Give the Driver a Break leaflets have timetables plus ideas for how to get the best from the bus as there are details of where to go for a lovely walk or how to combine the bus with a trip on a lake for example. These buses travel through such beautiful scenery, including up Langdale or to the top of the Kirkstone Pass, that the journey itself becomes part of a great day out in a way that travelling by car can't compare with.

There are printed leaflets for bus services to Langdale and Borrowdale, which are available from Tourist Information Centres.

For Coniston (505 service), Windermere and Ambleside (555 and 599), the Kirkstone Rambler (517), the Honister Rambler (77/77A) and the Sedbergh (564) services, Give the Driver a Break leaflets are only available online.

However you can still get a printed timetable for these services by picking up a Cumbria and Lakesrider magazine published by Stagecoach and Cumbria County Council which is widely available from Tourist Information Centres.

Policy officer Judith Moore said: 'Give the Driver a Break is a great way to see fantastic countryside as well as helping to look after the environment. Friends of the Lake District is pleased to be promoting Give the Driver a Break with the Lake District National Park Authority, as we believe that public transport is an essential part of the National Park.'

Thanks also to graphic designers Designworks, of Staveley, who generously donated the design for the online leaflets for free.

The downloadable leaflets are available here:
