Friday 16 October - Members' Walk ‘Involving Local Communities in Sustainable Woodlands'
Tuesday, 06 October 2009 16:01

Join Jack Ellerby to see and hear about some of Friends of the Lake District's proactive woodlands work in Eskdale. Through forest design plans, our environmental grants and in our own woodland we are making a real difference. The autumn colours will be starting and Eskdale is a wonderful valley. We'll travel on the Ratty (The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway) to reduce the numbers of vehicles on the narrow valley roads and walk from Dalegarth Rail Station to Hows Wood with visits to Giggle Alley, and Eskdale Youth Hostel, where we'll enjoy some tea and cake and see their new biomass system.

Everyone is welcome and no previous knowledge is necessary - enjoy the views, travel sustainably where you can and learn more about what we do on the ground.

The train leaves Ravenglass at 10.20 am, please get off at the third stop "The Green Station" at 10.45am and walk to St Bega's Church. Meet at St. Bega's Church at 11am (GR 142002). We will catch the train back to Ravenglass from Dalegarth at 3.40pm. Please travel by rail to Ravenglass if possible.

Outdoor clothing and boots are essential. Please also bring a packed lunch and refreshments. This event is free and everyone is welcome, reserve your place with the office in advance.
