Flora of the Fells Events Festival kicks off - Brochure Out Now Download the Flora of the Fells Festival events brochure here (650kb) The Flora of the Fells Festival is starting in earnest this week with the publication of the events brochure 2010. This year's festival promises an action packed programme of more than 180 events, celebrating the landscape of the Lake District, Cumbria and the North Pennines.
The festival aims to raise awareness about why the Cumbrian upland landscapes and habitats are key to wildlife and conservation, communities, the economy, culture and the natural resources of the region, and highlight the changes that climate change may have on them. The festival is co-ordinated by Friends of the Lake District and jointly funded with Natural England and the Lake District National Park Aauthority Sustainable Development Fund. Events are running from the end of March until November and include something to hopefully appeal to everyone from walks and talks, wild food foraging, nature watching, arts and crafts to local food, farm walks, canoeing and renewable energy events. To start things off Kendal District Cycle Scene are running a free family off road cycle ride around Loughrigg Fell on Sunday 28 March from 10-2pm and another free off road cycle tour around Claife Heights, Windermere on Easter Sunday from 10am to 3pm. Other Easter activities include an easy 2-mile walk to see wild daffodils along the River Kent at Staveley on Good Friday, 2 April from 10.30-12.30 starting outside Wilfs café, Stavely Mill Yard. This has been timed to fit in with public transport from Kendal. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and a free Family Woodland Walk, Pond Dipping and Treasure Hunt on Tuesday 6 April at Learning Fields Nag's Head Farm, Hoff, Appleby from 11am-3pm where less mobile visitors can "access all areas" through the use of a special vehicle.
