Flora Festival Films, Photography and Foraging

Upcoming events this weekend as part of the Flora of the Fells Festival across Cumbria and the North Pennines include a Spring Foraging Walk on Saturday 24 April discovering the edible wild plants in hedgerows, woodland and pasture on a guided walk from Helsington Church, 10am-12.30pm and a Spring Wildflower Walk to explore the special wildflowers of the Kendal Limestone area from 1.30-4pm. On Sunday 25 April the Brewery Arts Centre are showing In Transition Film in association with Flora of the Fells and South Lakes Action on Climate Change. Starting at 7.45pm this is an inspiring 50 minute film showing how Transition Towns around the world are responding to the challenges of peak oil and climate change with creativity, imagination and humour. South Lakes Action on Climate Change and Flora of the Fells will lead a discussion about some of the ideas raised after the film. Cost: £4

If you are a budding photographer then the Loughrigg Fell Digital Photography Workshop with professional photographer Dave Willis might appeal to you on Sunday 25 April. This is aimed at introducing photography enthusiasts to the techniques, working methods and creative possibilities of photography on a days fell-walking. The day will combine a guided walk exploring locations full of photographic possibilities with in-depth knowledge from a professional photographer. Dave is the visiting lecturer in photography at Kendal College and has many years experience teaching the art of photography. Loughrigg Fell is a favourite destination for walkers of all abilities and has the beautiful Loughrigg Tarn nestling at it's foot - a place that inspired Wordsworth and continues to enchant visitors and photographers to this day. Flora of the Fells Festival brochures are available free from local tourism offices or by sending a cheque for £1.50 made payable to 'Friends of the Lake District' to Murley Moss, Oxenholme Road, Kendal LA9 7SS to cover post and packing.
In addition to the festival the project has developed an education programme with local schools and published a series of booklets and leaflets about the Cumbrian uplands.

Don't forget, Friends of the Lake District Members go FREE on all festival events under £5 organised by Friends of the Lake District.

The Flora of the Fells Festival events are arranged by a wide range of groups and organizations working in Cumbria, The Lake District and North Pennines including Friends of the Lake District and Natural England.
