Legacies are the largest source of income for Friends of the Lake District. We receive no public funding and along with membership subscriptions and donations they are vital to our future work.

For centuries Cumbria, and in particular the Lake District, has been an inspirational place. The special qualities of its landscapes and the contribution it makes to our well-being are immense. Since 1934 Friends of the Lake District has been a key player in protecting and conserving the area, including a role in the formation of the Lake District National Park in 1951. We continue to strive for increased access to quiet public enjoyment, sustainable economic development and a wider appreciation of the contribution of the Counties landscapes to our quality of life.
